The “Siah” freestanding washbasin stands somewhere between sculpture and function — a silent totem for the rituals of cleansing. Designed as a minimal yet tactile object, it inhabits both domestic and public interiors — homes, hotels, offices, and restaurants — carrying with it a quiet sense of material dignity.
The piece is carved from raw stone slabs left in their natural shadow tones; each unit bears the mark of its origin — veins, fractures, and the slow memory of pressure beneath the earth. A distinct finishing technique bridges machine precision and handcrafted skill, creating a texture that is neither fully industrial nor entirely organic.
This work, designed and presented for the 4th “Objet” Exhibition in collaboration between Saye Architects and Elnaz Tehrani, was shaped around the intrinsic qualities and capabilities of its material. Its central concept is a celebration and homage to stone, one of the most natural and ancient materials in the history of architecture.
The “Siah” washbasin received the A’ Design Award 2023-2024 in the industrial design category.
